Mixed Media

Tshirt and skirt-H&M, Belt,necklaces-Target, Shoes-Sam Edelman, Watch-Coach,

A co-worker stopped me today and said I was breaking all the rules by mixing stripes with spots and she liked it.  Funny, I didn't think there were rules anymore when it comes to style. You put together what works for you. To top off the two prints, I threw on the leopard shoes for fun. Three different prints. Awesome. I think people like to still follow rules from way back when because it's not intimidating. I know it's scary to think "can I put this print with that". But, it's really what you like and if it looks good to you, go for it! Be brave my friends, be brave. It takes practice, but once you start feeling more confident, you'll be mixing three (or more!) prints too.

A little bit country

Blouse-Equipment, Skirt-Anthropologie, Belt-Linea Pelle, Shoes-BCBG,

This is a skirt I've fallen in love with over the years. I found it on clearance at Anthropologie for mere pennies! When I first brought it home, I had no idea what to wear with it. I spent many weeks trying to find a top that would match. I was trying to find the exact same orange! Can you imagine? That would have been so matchy-matchy. I cringe just thinking about it now. Then, it finally dawned on me to try a complimentary color.  I've worn something similar before, but there is something about this dotted blouse that makes this combo one of my all time faves. It feels a bit country...maybe I should have paired my cowboy boots with it! HA.  I think that would have been a bit to costumey-even for me!

On Friday last week, I took pictures of my friend Jessica. She wanted to have some classic skyline shots done of her in Minneapolis before she moves to NYC. One last goodbye if you will. Since I had the day off and the weather decided to cooperate, we ventured to the Stone Arch bridge to snap some pictures. I'm no professional by any means, but I still think they turned out cool. Imagine what I'll be capable of once I actually take some classes to learn how to use my camera.

Spring-like

Blouse-Gap, Kimono-Winter Kate, Jeans-Paige, Belt-JCrew, Shoes-Born, Necklaces-EmersonMade, Earrings-Limited
This was one long week. I don't know if it was because last week was short or because the weather did 50 degree shifts this week, but man am I glad it's Friday. We went from record breaking 103 degrees on Tuesday to 50 degrees last night. How's that for culture shock. Just when I thought summer was here, mother nature slaps us in the face with what looks to be early spring-including rain. I can't complain too much, as I prefer dressing for cooler temperatures. I'm not a shorts gal, and when it gets hot I have a hard time finding stuff to wear.  Give me 65-70 and sunny any day. What about you? Are you a warm weather lover? (I don't think anyone here was after Tuesday, that's for sure!)

Going the distance

Blouse-Gap, Sweater-Limited, Skirt-I made, Belt-Target, Shoes-Seychelles, Necklaces-Emersonmade, Watch-Coach, Bracelets-gifts, earrings-F21
This skirt is going the distance in my closet and I love it. For a few dollars, I stitched this skirt up a few weeks ago and have now posted 4 different ways to wear it (see them here). I continue to find new things in my closet to pair it with. Remember my cost per wear justification for purchasing items (refresh your memory here)? The cost per wear on this skirt is going to be negative soon-does that mean I can buy something expensive that I've been coveting for a long time to make up for it? Ramesh or mom if you're reading this I'm just kidding (or am I?) Do you an item in your closet that goes the distance?

Weathered

Based on the looks of our garage (isn't that hole by my head lovely?), it's time either paint or reside. Last year we had the house painted and that was no small task. Thank god we hired out for that or we'd still be painting. Normally, I'm a DIYer, but when it comes to big, surmounting tasks like this, I prefer to hire someone. So if you know anyone who'll give me a fair bid, send them my way.

After the fantastic weekend weather we had, the yard is starting to shape up as well. As soon as the seed fills in, I'll share pictures. I'm actually looking forward to hanging out back here and spending the warm nights with great friends and good rosé (my new favorite summer wine).

Bohemian Mix

Jumpsuit-F21, Blouse-Equipment, Vest-JCrew, Shoes-Born, Necklaces-EmersonMade, Bracelets-Gifts, local, Watch-Coach
Last night was Hadley's last night in Minneapolis (remember this card). I dedicated this post to him last week, but I've got one more post for him today (I promise... this is it, we've just been celebrating so many times, it's become funny!). Over the weekend, we took him out to Masu in NE Mpls with a bunch of friends (If you haven't been, get there now! it's awesome). It was a great night and even though he's leaving us, we're all super excited about his new adventure. I wore my 70's inspired jumpsuit because I was feeling festive and knew he would appreciate my look. Those who know me, know I love me some 70's! And when I saw this jumpsuit at F21, I knew it would be mine. Hadley called it bohemian and I have to agree. At first I was thinking more disco fab, but based on how I styled it, bohemian fits. Cheers to Hadley, and being bohemian.

In Bloom

Sweater-Limited, Skirt-Anthropologie, Belt-Target, Shoes-BCBG, Necklaces-Limited and Macy's,
Watch-Coach, Bracelets-all from Maui
The weather has finally started to get nice here... about time, it's MID MAY! I dug this lovely skirt out of the archives of my closet and embraced the fine weather. Rooftop HH's and patio lunches have been part of my activities the last few days. I started my sewing project this past weekend. I've been inspired by Jessica of What I Wore. If you haven't checked out her blog, do so, it's fab. Her style is great and I love all the clothes she's been making lately. I haven't sewn since I was 10 and that was for my Barbies. So, I'm starting with something simple- a skirt. I've got the waistband and hem to do and then I'll debut it here on the blog, so stay tuned.

Monthly Night Out

Cami-Target, Tank-F21, Sweater-Target, Jeans-Paige, Shoes-Seychelles, Purse-Hayden Harnett, Necklace/Earrings-The Limited,  Bracelets-Gift/Local, Watch-Coach
This is the title a few co-worker/friends of mine gave to our monthly get together that we started a year or so ago. Once a month we all commit to going out to dinner and drinks. It started a few years back when I took them out to recognize the great job they had done on a project. We had so much fun that night, we've been doing it ever since. Tonight we hit up Amazing Thailand for dinner. It was great. Not being able to have carbs, I opted for the chicken satay and it was delish. Then we headed over to Cafeteria for drinks and dessert. I had to forgo the dessert, but the red velvet cake looked divine as did the chocolate malt. Maybe a Saturday splurge day! It was a fun night with the gang. Looking forward to the next one.

Tick Tock

Blouse-Gap, Skirt-Anthropologie, Boots-Nine West, Lion Necklace-Local, Chains-Jewelscapes, Watch-Coach, Bangle-Forever21, Bangle-Gift from my Girlfriend (I've been wearing it non-stop!- thanks Elena) Earrings-Forever21

Happy Friday! Do you all have big plans for the weekend? We're going to dinner with friends tonight. Should be fun times.

This week Ramesh and I started a body re-define workshop our trainer is hosting for next 30 days. Basically during the week we don't eat carbs - we focus on protein, vegetables and legumes/beans. After the first two days of sugar cravings, it got MUCH easier. In fact, I'm rather enjoying it and feel really good. What got me thru those first few days was knowing the sweet victory I'll enjoy on Saturday. We get one free day a week to eat anything we want... and yep, you guessed it...we picked Saturdays. I can't tell you how much I've been looking forward to this day! I think we are going to start the day with a big gooey donut. We've been writing down what we want to splurge on for that day all week. I'm afraid we might make ourselves sick. BTW-you can have 2 glasses of red wine a day. How sweet is that? I'll keep you posted on our progress. We're only on week 1. Have a fantastic weekend!

Golf Pants

Blouse-Gap, Sweater-Forever21, Vest-Jovovich-Hawk for Target, Pants-Pure Joy,Shoes-DV by Dolce Vita,
Earrings-LimitedNecklace-Juicy Couture, Watch-Coach, Bracelet-Local, Bangles-Gift from my sister-in-law
So that snowstorm I was telling you about...it hit us and it made me really crabby. What started out as torrential rain turned to sleet which then turned to snow. I wasn't one bit happy looking out my window to see white covering everything. In rebellion I broke out what I like to call my "golf pants". They're so obnoxiously loud, I love them. I've have them for over 12 years(!) and I'm still making them work. Being that old, could I consider them vintage? hmmm.
